Brazil’s Supreme Court ruled last week that it can stop a Brazilian government that had accused the state of offering a low-cost version of Viagra to the people in Brazil as part of a “remedy” that could have affected public health, even though it did not provide an official warning about the potential harm to the country.
Brazil’s Supreme Court decision has not been appealed since a court in December ruled that the drug, which is used to treat erectile dysfunction, should be stopped.
The country’s Health Ministry, the state’s health minister, and a coalition of medical associations that includes Brazil’s Catholic Church, the state’s health minister, and the National Police, which were all part of the government’s effort to curb the spread of HIV and other STDs.
“Brazil’s health ministry has decided to stop the use of Viagra and other similar medicines that are offered to the people of Brazil,” said Justice Mariano Martel in a statement.
According to a, Brazil’s Ministry of Health, and the National Police, which are part of the government’s response to the Supreme Court decision, will take legal action against the drugmaker and its manufacturer, Pfizer, on their behalf.
The decision means that a court in Brazil may still decide a case on whether the government has a legal obligation to give a drugmaker a remedy, and whether that remedy would harm the public.
Brazil’s public health department has also asked Pfizer to stop the drugmaker from making a similar drug, called Cialis, to the people of Brazil, a decision that the ministry said would be an “alternative remedy” that would have been “safe, effective, and accessible”.
The drugmaker is not currently offering Cialis to the people of Brazil. But in October, it is allowed to use the drug for a number of purposes, including to treat erectile dysfunction, because it does not have any of the same risks as Viagra.
Brazil has been on a tightrope between its laws and regulations since President Jair Bolsonaro’s election. It was due to lose its presidential election on June 7, with the country’s public health department continuing to issue a notice to the president on June 18.
Brazil’s government has also faced the worst of the pandemic. It announced last month that it would not allow access to the drugs it sells to Brazil. It said in November that it was taking steps to reduce the number of people who are using them, and that it would take measures to reduce the number of people who are using Viagra.
In February, the state’s health ministry had said that the drugmaker, Pfizer, would begin marketing it to the public in November. In November, it said it would not distribute the drug to the people of Brazil.
It said it would stop marketing the drug in Brazil, but that Pfizer would continue to make the drug.
Brazil is expected to take an appeal from the Supreme Court.
According to an, the Supreme Court ruled that the drugmaker is entitled to a fair hearing in order to have it heard before it can decide whether to take legal action against Pfizer.
The decision is likely to appeal in the future. It was due to the Supreme Court’s decision to hear the case in December.
The drugmaker’s lawsuit is expected to be handed over to the state health ministry. It is not yet clear what happens next.
Brazil’s health ministry has said it is in the process to stop the use of Cialis by the people in Brazil, although the ministry said it would not be distributing it to the people of the country.
Brazil’s government’s decision to ban the drugmaker is likely to appeal.
